Update – construction for Akumalam women empowerment centre.

Dec 23rd, 2013 by admin

Here we go again, the update to start the future of some women, by offering them opportunities to develop their skills and create a sustainable life.

Remarks: The kick off of this project has been delayed due to lack of funds, finalizing the leasing contract for the land and the bureaucratic hurdles to obtain a building permit to realize such a great project for the community.

Excerpts from leasing contract:  leasing contract duration 20 years. Site will not be sold to any third party. Site can be purchased for fix amount of 20.000 Euro within leasing period. Discount: 3% of monthly leasing fee paid will be considered upon purchased.

Land size: 14 x 13 m = 182 sqm

Status construction 04.04.2013: Site preparation, clearance, excavations, foundation trenches and ramping. see Pictures

Financing: only 90% of the finance demanded by the contractor available. Funds needed, please forward this update to your friends and donate!

General remark: a statement from one resident, when we announced this project last Feb. 2013 during our last visit to the village…“it is going to be an opportunity for us all, mothers and daughters, what an opportunity!!”. This is not the single allusion that indicates how the residents are willing to exploit this opportunity and build their future.

The basic fact, one out of 3 housewives (average 4 children) are solely dependent from the small income of their husbands and their farms. Most of these kids are being sponsored (books, school fees, uniforms….) by our organization, thus it is time for them learn a trade, improve the household income and disburden the grand parents and husbands.
