Project: School Uniforms

Uniforms give a sense of identity to a school. They also give a feeling of “belonging” to the pupils, and to a certain extent avoid obvious differences between rich and poor kids.
The idea of supporting poor village pupils (in Akumalam) is based on three main issues:
- To unburden the poor parents, most of them are farmers (monthly wage: €7 – €15). We organize a local tailor to provide the pupils with their “donated” uniforms.
- Normally, pupils without the correct uniform are not allowed to attend classes. Most of the poor parents/grandparents keep their children away from school, because of having no uniforms.
- Providing such help to kids motivates them to stay at school and unburden the parents/grandparents financially.
The Akumalam Project continues to acknowledge the generosity of all its donors, among which are friends, sports fellows, colleagues, which offer financial and moral support for the work we try to do. Your donations to this Project continues to make a huge difference in the life of the young kids unable to have basic education.
Numbers
Since 2003, the Akumalam Projects has provided 300 kids with proper school uniforms. This corresponds with an investment of €3000,-.
