The construction of the “Empowerment Center” building has been completed.
Dec 22nd, 2014 by Anye Chifen
With this center we intend to provide women and females in general of the village and nearby communities the opportunity to learn a trade (precisely sewing) and by it gain some degree of economic independence, and also increase the household income.
One third of the the mothers in the village rely solely on the harvests from their farms and on their husbands insignificant incomes to push forward their families. Kids of the majority of these mothers would not attend school, without our organisation’s sponsorship. Sponsorship that consists of the provision of books, uniforms, payments of school fees etc.
As can be seen in the pictures, the first five sewing machines have been delivered. With the aforementioned machines we intend to start off with 10 trainees. We aim to train, through Mr. Nde, a total of 20 females over a period of 2 years. The fee for the two year period should be 32,- Euro. As soon as we have more than 10 pupils, we will purchase more machines.
The inauguration of the center is programmed for december 2014. An opening ceremony is intended and will be honoured by the presence of the mayor of the Bamenda council and representatives of the village and nearby communities.
Organizational aspects: A managerial committee was nominated for the steering of the “Empowerment Centre”(WEC).
This committee (Mr. Nde and other village representatives) will be responsible for the management of the centre and will have budget control and decision power on fees, expenses and other vital issues of the centre.
