Minor troubles in Cameroon will not stop us, we are focused.
Aug 11th, 2017 by Inga Vockenroth
November last year, the English speaking North & South western part of Cameroon started revolving against the repressions they suffer by the French speaking government. Due to general strikes, ghost towns, all the schools including our sewing centre were closed. Additional to other measures taken by the government, they also responded by shutting down the internet from the north & south west.
After long discussions and negotiations, we were able to explain that we are not a state owned school and not a “standard” school! We received the permission to re-open our sewing centre.
What a success: We have a new sewing teacher and now 11 young girls to learn a trade/profession!!!
Apart from the school uniforms, they started producing daily clothing as well as traditional dresses that are finalized by stitching the Cameroonian motives in the fabric (see pictures). Additionally they make jewelery such as necklaces from local beads.
A list of required items will be published here.
As all this is a great success and we wanted to share it with you directly. We will post updates on the other activities soon.
