Dear all,
not all kids around the world have the opportunity to have basic education. The reasons are numerous; health, poverty, ignorance or lack of opportunity. In the Akumalam village, the main problem is poverty, which hinders the pupils to afford basic education. The average income per family in this region is about €10,-/month (over estimated). Therefore, it is difficult for the parents or grand parents to pay a kid’s school fees (€15,-/year). Most people in this region are local farmers and their income is seasonally dependent. Thus, poverty ruins the education, health care, and facilities like water in Akumalam.
But why Akumalam?
I have lived in this area for years and my grand mother lived there. We know the difficulties the people in this area are facing and the impacts on children. Our initiative is to draw your attention to support and motivate poor kids. Thanks to all those who have been helping this project since 2003 in one way or the other, your contributions and supports have helped this project enormously.
Have fun going through the pictures and in case of any questions: we always have an open ear for creative minds,
sincerely yours,
Anye
